Beach Wrestling

The North American Beach Wrestling Championships return to the sand again this year!  Up to 250 individual wrestlers had participated annually, plus additional teams from local schools and the military.  This year’s competition is being organized by Rodney and Darlene Grainger, long affiliated with Virginia’s AAU program.  Assisting the Graingers will be Dennis Cannon, a 2-time College All-American who placed third in the World and has 1,000 matches behind him.

We are planning for an exciting weekend of beach “wrasslin” -- so please alert your friends that NASSC is where to get it done in June!  Registration details will be available soon so be sure to keep checking back.  For more information, e-mail Dennis at or call (757) 478-2693.

Beach COED Football

The US Beach Flag Football Association is once again bringing hot action to the NASSC! Begun in 1988 by local promoter, Jay Delvecchio, as part of his fitness organization, a league quickly formed. The following year it culminated in to a sand Superbowl Championship. Rosters include four men and two women. Matches will takes place at NASSC between 12-14th Streets.

The league expanded to Spring and Fall seasons in 2001 and remains the single beach coed flag football league known to exist in the USA. Tournaments are being offered along the Atlantic Seaboard and are routinely included in NASSC and the East Coast Surfing Championships (ECSC).

Sand Hockey

The North American Sand Soccer Championships proudly welcomes back sand hockey for their annual National Sand Hockey Tournament! Virginia Beach Sand Hockey and Beyond the Net Training are offering you a chance to play field hockey in an exciting way... in the sand!

Virginia Beach Field Hockey began over 35 years ago as a grassroots effort to bring field hockey to Virginia Beach.  Today, their mission and goal remain the same -- "Spreading our love and passion for field hockey!"

Beach Hockey is played with two teams of eight players each. A maximum of five players from each team take part in play at any particular time during the match. Beach Hockey is played with a small leather ball (20 cm). The beach hockey stick is produced with a bigger/larger head of the stick. There are holes in the head making it easier to hit the ball in the sand.
